“Kindness is the light that dissolves all walls between souls, families, and nations.” – Paramahansa Yogananda
Migrant workers are an important fabric of our society, they work alongside us and have built Malaysia together. They offer their time and skills to our society by being very far away from their home and families— yet, they are faced with prejudice daily, or worse, indifference.
This needs to change! That is why we created the #KindnessWorks movement — a movement to encourage everyone to be kind to migrant workers! We need to stop living in separate bubbles, and as Gandhi once said, be the change you want to see in this world.
Not sure how? These are some steps to get you started:
- Pay attention to the migrant workers around you, and start greeting them on a daily basis, as you would with a friend.
- Begin having conversations with these migrant workers, you could ask them for their name, about where they came from, or how they are feeling that particular day.
- Once the rapport is built, you can take these interactions to the next level by buying them an extra breakfast, greeting them in their mother language, or buying them a refreshing drink.
When you’ve done any of the above and more, feel free to also share them with us on social media by tagging us @MigrationWorks and hashtag #KindnessWorks! We want to share the love 💞
And if you want to step up your game, spread this message of empathy for migrant workers to your school//university/company/community by inviting us for an inspiring team building activity 😉 It’s the fun and informative Amazing Race[link] that we have curated!
There are just so many ways to be a part of this movement, one random act of kindness at a time <3
Lastly, pledge here if you believe migrant workers deserve to be treated equally!
